Lunch and Dinner Service
Continuous service from noon until eleven in high season, with no closed afternoon — the single most useful thing for travellers who arrive at four having driven since breakfast. The menu runs to about sixteen dishes plus daily specials, with a fixed-price weekday lunch and a children's section. Tables can be reserved but walk-ins are always kept back, and the terrace takes larger parties without notice because that is how holiday traffic actually behaves.
Takeaway and Picnic Boxes
Whole roast chickens, portions, sandwiches, salads and bread packed for the road in card and paper, ordered at the counter or by telephone twenty minutes ahead. Picnic boxes for two or four include everything needed for a stop at a beach or a viewpoint, with the addresses of three good places to eat them printed on the lid. This is the fastest-growing part of the business, mostly among families who would rather eat outside than in a restaurant.
Family Celebrations
Long tables for baptisms, birthdays, communions and anniversaries, seating up to sixty on most terraces and ninety at two of the diners, with a set menu agreed in advance and a fixed price per head. The families who run each diner cook these events themselves, which is why they are booked months ahead by people who live locally rather than by tourists. Cake, decoration, music within the permitted hours and parking marshalling are all arranged.
Coach Groups and Tour Operators
Four diners have the parking and the kitchen capacity for coach groups of up to fifty-five, served within forty minutes on a pre-agreed menu with vegetarian and allergen alternatives prepared in advance. Drivers eat free and have a separate quiet table. Operators book a fixed slot and a fixed price, and we hold that slot even if the coach is an hour late, which is the reason several companies have used the same stop for a decade.
Off-Season and Local Custom
From October to May the diners open at weekends and on holidays for local families, with a shorter menu, a wood fire indoors and prices reduced further. Sunday lunch is the busiest service of the winter and is booked out most weeks. Several diners host village events, wine evenings and cookery afternoons in the quiet months, which keeps the staff employed and the kitchens in practice for the season ahead.
Allergen Handling and Dietary Needs
A full allergen chart is available at every table and updated whenever a recipe changes, and the kitchens are set up so that a gluten-free or dairy-free order is prepared on separate equipment rather than merely described as suitable. Vegetarian dishes are cooked properly rather than assembled from side plates, and there is always at least one vegan main course. Staff are trained to ask about allergies when taking an order rather than waiting to be told.
